Faster, Simpler, Better: How We’re Improving the flowroute Experience
Small UX improvements can make a huge difference. Here's how we're making route checking faster, easier, and more intuitive — especially on mobile.
When building a tool like flowroute, speed isn’t just a feature — it’s the entire point.
After all, we’re helping people save time on their daily commute. So if using the tool itself feels slow or unintuitive, something is off.
Over the past days, we’ve taken a closer look at how users interact with the website. And we’ve identified a few key friction points that we’re now actively improving.
The Problem: Too Many Small Delays
Individually, the issues we found might seem minor.
But combined, they create unnecessary friction:
- Entering your current location takes too long
- Switching between different “From” and “To” scenarios is cumbersome
- The route-checking feature isn’t immediately accessible
- Mobile users have to navigate through extra steps just to get started
And here’s the reality: every extra second or click reduces the likelihood that someone actually uses the tool.
1. Faster Location Input with One Click
One of the biggest usability issues we noticed is how long it takes to manually enter your current location.
Typing your address — especially on mobile — is slow and inconvenient.
Our Solution
We’re introducing a simple but powerful improvement:
A one-click button to automatically detect and fill in your current location.
This means:
- No more typing your full address
- No more guesswork
- Instant input for the “From” field
This alone will significantly speed up the process of checking a route.
Why This Matters
The faster a user can get started, the more likely they are to actually complete the process.
Reducing friction at the very first step is critical.
2. Smarter Handling of “From” and “To”
Another issue we observed is how users sometimes switch contexts.
For example:
- Checking a route for a colleague
- Then switching back to their own commute
- Or reversing “From” and “To” inputs
Right now, this process isn’t as flexible as it should be.
What We’re Improving
We’re optimizing how both input fields behave:
- Faster switching between locations
- More intuitive handling of different scenarios
- Reduced effort when adjusting routes
The goal is simple: make it effortless to try different route combinations.
3. Bringing Route Checking to the Hero Section
This is probably the most impactful change.
Currently, users need to:
1. Open the website
2. Find the navigation
3. Click “Check My Route”
On desktop, that’s already an extra step.
On mobile, it’s worse:
- Open the burger menu
- Look for the right option
- Then navigate to the tool
That’s too much friction for something that should be instant.
The Fix
We’re moving the entire route-checking interface directly into the hero section.
This means:
- The input fields are visible immediately
- No extra clicks required
- Users can start typing the moment the page loads
Why This Is a Game-Changer
The hero section is the most visible part of any website.
By placing the core functionality there:
- Users instantly understand what the tool does
- They can act immediately
- The entire experience becomes faster and more intuitive
Especially on mobile, this will make a huge difference.
Designing for Speed and Clarity
All of these improvements follow one core principle:
> The best user experience is the one that requires the least effort.
No unnecessary clicks.
No confusion.
No delays.
Just a clear path from landing on the page to getting a useful result.
What This Means for You
Once these updates are live, you’ll be able to:
- Check your route in seconds
- Instantly use your current location
- Easily adjust routes and scenarios
- Get results without navigating through menus
In short: less friction, more value.
Continuous Improvement
This is just the beginning.
Every interaction on the platform helps us understand how to make flowroute better. And often, it’s these small UX improvements that create the biggest real-world impact.
Because saving 20 minutes on your commute starts with saving a few seconds on the website.
